Today you will be welcomed by a representative who will bring you to your hotel.
Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and you will travel via the Pan American Highway towards Alajuela. During this ride you will see the Agriculture monument, the popular Mango Park and stop for the Doka Coffee Tour. Afterwards, you will continue the trip to colorful landscapes. You will see fern, flower and strawberry farms. When you enter the Poas Volcano National Park, a cloud forest, you will notice the changes in temperature and vegetation, as it is cooler. Once you are at the volcano you can explore the impressive crater with its fumaroles. Then you can hike to Botos Lagoon and learn about the different ecosystems in Costa Rica. You will have time to enjoy a delicious meal at the Doka Estate, after visiting the volcano while surrounded by the beautiful La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
A guide will pick you up at the hotel, early in the morning, and then take you to Tortuguero National Park. In this park you can discover the great biological variety of rainforest, swamps, lagoons and beaches. These beaches are the homes of several kinds of sea turtles. At the rivers of the park one can even see manatees, caimans, crocodiles and the Tropical Car, known as a living fossil. Jaguars, three-toed sloths and monkeys live in the forest, like many other animals. At the national park around 375 species of birds live together with kingfishers, peacocks and parrots. The nature is also truly amazing. More than 400 species of trees and 2200 species of plants can be seen.
Today is an extra day to explore Tortuguero National Park. You can explore the park by foot but you can also take boat trips which are included.
Boat & bus transfer to Guápiles. Today you will go to the Arenal Volcano National Park. The Arenal volcano woke up 400 years ago and has been active constantly since. The La Fortuna waterfalls are also located in the Arenal Volcano National Park. You can go here either by foot or by horse. If you are a fish or bird fan, you should definitely visit the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge which offers great fishing and bird watching trips on the Rio Frio. You will also visit Arenal National Park, where you can take hikes up to the active side of the volcano or the bridges, which are facing the volcano for a beautiful sight. At the hike there are optional possibilities to go windsurfing, swimming, boat rides, kayaking, and hot springs.
The Peñas Blancas is a slow flowing river so you will have the perfect opportunity to watch the wildlife of Costa Rica. Look closely and see monkeys, iguanas, caimans and all kinds of tropical birds. While floating on the Peñas Blancas a guide will give you all the information about the wildlife.
Today you will have time to relax in Arenal
Monteverde is known as one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the tropics. The Children’s Eternal rain forest is the first children’s rainforest in the world. The Monteverde Butterfly Garden is the best place to see the colorful butterflies and the Hummingbird Gallery is also a must if you want to see colorful birds. To get the full experience you can go on an adventure by walking over the suspension bridges or see the forest from above by canopy. Other options to experience the forest are by going on a Sky Walk, Sky Trek and the Natural Wonder tram.
The longest cables for zip lining in Costa Rica can be found at Selvatura Canopy Tour. The tour consists of 15 cables and 18 platforms for an amazing perspective. The tour has an optional Tarzan Swing. This is for the real adrenaline junkies, as you will be launched in the forest by a swing rope for an unforgettable experience. Another way to explore the forest is by going a Tree Top walkway. This walkway consists of 8 suspension bridges connected by trails. The track is around 1.9 miles (3km). The bridges vary from 150 ft (50m) to 500 ft (170m) and the heights differ from 36ft (12m) to 180ft (60m). The bridges are for people of all ages. The tours last up to 2 hours.
At night you have the best opportunity to watch and hear the wildlife. The tour starts at sunset when wildlife is very active. Sloths, coatis, porcupines, tarantulas, and frogs are some of the animals you will likely to see.
