Today your driver will take you to Cancun for your ferry to Isla Mujeres, which means Island of Women. It was given this name after several female figurines were found there in the 16th century. The island is very small, as it covers only five miles of land. It has beautiful white sand beaches and gorgeous tropical views.
Today will be a free relaxing day. Swim in the blue waters, snorkel in the barrier reef, get a massage on the beach, or relax in a hammock. You may be able to take part in the magical experience of releasing baby turtles into the ocean. The turtle hatching season in Mujeres Island takes place from August to October. If you are here on the right day, you can even help release turtles with a guide.
You could visit the south of the island where you will find a massive reef formation. Here you can go snorkeling, kayaking or ziplining. In the southwest region, the island has an underwater museum with hundreds of man-made statues. This beautiful art gallery and unusual attraction features two galleries; the first one is deep enough for both divers and snorkelers, and the second one is only for snorkelers. Also located in the southern side of the island you will find a lookout point which has a Mayan temple, complete with great views of the ocean and waves crashing into the cliffside. Mujeres Island is a wonderful place to finish this trip.
